Chirag Kathrani · Candidate for San Ramon, City Council District 2

Democracy roots are local

During 2025 alone, 706 members who spoke at the council went unheard or unacknowledged. I believe in making a measurable difference. I will always keep Monday 6–7 PM open as community time for members to connect with me directly.

What I Stand For

Open Governance

Minimize the Closed door meetings to minimal so community is not kept out.

Open Governance News(OpGov.News) was built to fix it.

  • My thought of Open Governance strongly relies on engaging the community in meaningful participation. This commitment has driven me to build Open Governance News (OpGov.News) where we have focused on educating community how their decisions are made.

Open Space Protection (Measure G)

Open space is important to preserved and protected.

Rather than abolishing i will expand the protection.

In Oct 2025, San Ramon council without any discussion abolished the protection it gave by strongly forcing super majority and meaningful discussion.

    Small Business Ecosystem

Thriving local business ecosystem is source of future entrepreneurship

Conduct regular workshops to address the small business challenges.

A Thriving Small Business ecosystem where the owners are mentoring other youths into businesses becomes a pillar of society. As a small business owner myself have mentored multiple youths in successful businesses.

    Affordable by Design

Cheapest home starts in millions making it harder for young families to move in.

Encouraging building of Starter homes will solve the problem of declining population and declining school enrollments.

Since 2020, San Ramon has built many homes yet still seen a decline in population, and schools are struggling to keep up due to declining enrollment. Meeting RHNA numbers by building townhomes alone is not helping. Additionally, most essential staff need to be housed locally.

      Safe Neighbourhood

      Engaged community becomes alert community

Currently, most San Ramon residents are significantly disengaged. An informed and engaged community — supported by regular programs with law enforcement and city leadership — will structurally build safety into the system.

        Traffic Mitigation

Long term planning for traffic is essential for any development.

Each project may not add significant traffic on its own, but the combined effect of thousands of townhomes is going to choke the city.

With so much development coming into the core of the city, as well as around it, the long-term effect will be to cut off the Windemere and Gale Ranch areas.

These priorities aren't developed in isolation — they come directly from conversations with you. Share your thoughts and help shape this platform.
